FOR WHO IS BOTSWANA?

For the bird lovers or those interested in seeing lots of wild dog action

For those who love to experience safaris in different ways and feel safe on a boat, canoe or horse

For those who just want to be on safari as long as they can

In Botswana, for starters, there’s water. Not an ocean, but a river that flows across land in an endless panoply of water veins - some shallow, some large, some deep. It’s called the Okavango Delta, it’s one of the highlights of this country and worth at least a 3 nights stay. We just make sure that there are water activities available on the properties we choose, depending on the time of the year.

But not only water is at the center of Botswana’s attraction points: you can also go down into the Kalahari desert and cross moon-alike landscapes, covered in crusty salt soils, nothing but white around you.

Also, when you ask us to plan your trip to Botswana, you will for sure have this included on the program: a flight above the Okavango Delta. It’s that one flight one should do at least once in a lifetime.

In this country Safaris happen flying but also on a 4x4, boat, mokoro, on the back of a horse and in some places, on foot. You can even sit inside a hide, on the verge of a water hole where animals will be drinking right next to you.

Botswana is for the wilderness lovers, the wildlife lovers, the untamed safari lovers and the luxury lovers. No other cars at sight, no radio calls between vehicles of other properties… only because there is a low human impact footprint in national parks and enormous private concessions. Botswana is a real deal, when it comes to safaris.

The best way to go around Botswana is by light aircraft although in certain areas, depending on the months of the year, you can travel on a 4x4.

Nothing is missing in Botswana when it comes to wildlife: from being one of the best birding destinations in Africa, to getting a good chance of seeing almost all animals… Of course some regions can be prone to wild dogs, whilst others can be more easy to find cheetah (although never too easy in Botswana, we should point out - and the same applies to rhinos, unfortunately). Besides the endless safaris sightings one can have, another highlight is the fact that you can go explore the wilderness on a canoe, a boat, a car, on foot, on a helicopter, a horse and even a ballon.

Botswana has so many different areas that we always recommend at least a 9-nights trip and see at least 3 regions. There are no long haul airlines landing in the country and the best connections are via Johannesburg.

You can head into the Kalahari desert and, depending on the season, explore it on foot, a quad bike or a horse. You can sleep in the middle of salt pans, or easily cross over to neighbouring Zambia to visit the Victoria Falls. We should warn you though: Botswana is mainly a safari destination and if being among wildlife is not your priority, other African countries are better for your holidays.

Rainy season can start in December and extend until April although January and February can see the most rains. Even though, the greener aspect of a safari can be beautiful to photograph.
